Mineral reflectance spectra and chemistry of 37 copper-bearing surface samples from Apliki copper-gold-pyrite mine in the Republic of Cyprus

Descriptions

The data set contains mineral chemical analyses of 37 different surface materials from the copper-gold-pyrite mine Apliki in the Republic of Cyprus and their corresponding hyperspectral spectra. The field samples were sampled in March 2018 in cooperation of the Cyprus Geological Survey Department of the Republic of Cyprus (GSD) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The hyperspectral data was acquired with the HySpex system in a range of 400 – 2500nm and is presented in a spectral library. The resulting reflectance data are scaled from 0 - 10000. Detailed information about the mineral specimen, sample area and geochemistry is presented in the data sheets. The spectral library presented here is part of a bigger collection of spectral libraries including samples from rare-earth minerals, rare-earth-oxides (Koerting et al., 2019a, https://doi.org/10.5880/GFZ.1.4.2019.004) and copper-bearing minerals (Koellner et al., 2019, https://doi.org/10.5880/GFZ.1.4.2019.003).

Version history: 14 December 2020: release of version 2.0 with completely restructured Technical Report and data files according to the review recommendations of the related article in Earth System Science Data (ESSD) • New title of the data publication • Rearrangement of the report following the revised version of Koellner et al. (2019) - Additional references to Koerting et al. (2021, new Apliki technical report) for the outcrop data and Koerting (Doctoral Thesis in review) that refer to this specific dataset. - Additional chapers (5 and 6): explaining the area of origin of the samples and the deposit type where the samples stem from. - Table 1: The XRD mineralogy of every sample was added to the sample table, the sample column is now called “sample ID”, as is the “sample” column in all the xlsx files. For example, “Apl1_A_1a” is now always called the Sample ID. Sample 10c and 10d now both have images, an arrow in the image points to the sampling location - Removal of Figure 2 (jpg showing the .txt file) and excel file “overviews” these are now fully and only explained in the tables. • file “Apliki_samples_hyperspectral_parameters” - Update of Table according to the updates in the Technical Report and addition of units are in brackets [ ]. • file: "Apliki_speclib_closeup": - additional image in the report of the spectral library - and new citation due to this image to the Doctoral thesis of F.
